BELIZE: Day 1

Day 1:  Arrival in Belize City

Our flights down were pretty uneventful, now that we were rerouted from our original aircraft (737 Max 8).  When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised to have a driver waiting for us from Turneffe Island Resort (TIR) to take us into Belize City for our overnight at the Raddison.

Belize City is definitely NOT a tourist destination.  The majority of the population of Belize lives here, and much of the infrastructure has seen better days.

New meaning of the word, "manhole"

Our hotel was probably pretty nice 40 years ago, but lack of upkeep has worn its luster. But, it is right at the dock for the boat to TIR, and it was for only one night.

We walked to The Celebrity, a restaurant that our driver recommended as great local food, for an early dinner (food was excellent with huge portions and low prices), then early to bed.  Long day today starting at 4 am.  Off to TIR  tomorrow.

(The internet at TIR is VERY spotty.  It took a full day to upload these 3 photos, So check back periodically, but don't hold your breath)
