Belize: Day 2

Day 2:  Belize City to Terneffe Island

This morning, we had a few hours to kill before the boat to TIR, so we decided to walk around the area near the hotel.  Apparently, there is a large Mennonite community here (I guess they like warm weather too) and we found this sign right behind our hotel.

Along the waterfront walk, there is a lighthouse that marks the mouth of the Belize River, as well as the ubiquitous signage fro the cruise ships (2 Princess and 1 Royal Carribbean anchored about a mile off shore in deep water)

Not far from the hotel is the port for all the cruise ships to offload their cattle.  There are about 50 t-shirt and diamond stores as well as numerous bars (serving up lots of rum at 10 am) along the docks, and thousands of people.  We are, yet again, happy to not be on a cruise.

We elected to spend the rest of the time in Belize City at the Raddison 's pool, in peace and quiet.

The boat was at the end of the pier in front of the Raddison, so it was an easy walk with our luggage.

The boat ride was nice and flat and took about 90 minutes.

When we arrived at TIR, we were greeted by the entire staff, remindful of arrival at camps in Africa.

The resort is beautiful, and the staff very friendly.

Dinner was fabulous! After dinner, we were treated to a beautiful, almost full moon.  Diving tomorrow!
