Day 2: Board the Wind Spirit and Depart Papeete.
The morning brought yet another gorgeous day. After breakfast, we checked out of the Intercontinental and made our way to the port for the dreaded bike building. Quite unbelievably, it went off without a hitch. The whole process took just over an hour! A far cry from my earlier attempts that lasted an eternity. A brief shakedown ride showed no glaring problems, but we will wait to break out the champagne until we get through tomorrow’s ride.
We boarded our home for the next 7 nights and found our stateroom without difficulty. The room is small, but there is plenty of storage, and the shower is great, so I guess it will be very comfortable. The cabin is near the aft stairs which is convenient for getting to important parts of the ship (the restaurant, the marina (water sports area), and the bar.
At sunset, the crew hoisted the sails (actually, pressed a button and electric winches did all the rest) and we sailed off to Morea (12 miles from Papeete). After a wonderful dinner, we headed to bed for an early rise. We’d like to get the bulk of our ride in before it got too hot.
