Croatia- Day 1

 Day 1: Dubrovnik

We finally made it to Croatia!  The flights over were pretty uneventful with only a small delay getting out of Frankfurt, Germany.  As we descended into Dubrovnik, we got a great birds-eye view of the old walled city.

Our driver, Mario, was waiting for us with a smile and whisked us off to our hotel, about a 1/2 hour from the airport.

The hotel was beautiful, sitting high on a bluff above the Adriatic.  You enter the hotel on the 10th floor and head down to your floor (we are all on 6).  The pool, restaurant and beach are on floors 2, 1, and 0.

We all have a stunning view from our rooms with nice balconies overlooking the Adriatic.

Molly and Dave arrived  about 5 hours before us, and had an opportunity to get a lay of the land (and scope out a dinner spot). Just outside the hotel (on floor 0) is a promenade along the water's edge that has one restaurant after another, and after walking by mistake about 1/4 mi. past the planned dinner location, we made a uie and finally rolled into Konaval Restaurant at about 8pm.  There were no tables for 8 outside, but when we told the waiter we were going to find another restaurant, he kicked out som very nice English couple so we could get their table.  We had a nice conversation with them while they finished their beers.

Before dinner, Suzie distributed bracelets that she brought back from the Dominican Republic to the whole crew (so we could I.D. each other).

Dinner was great, and for dessert, we finished off with gelato. There are more gelato shoppes heere than in all of Italy, and we are going to do our best to hit each one!
