Day 11 Lares Trek 5-Huacahuasi and Ollantaytambo
 |
Leaving Huacahuasi |
Today we hiked from Qapaqñan to Totora, a 4.1 mile mostly downhill hike. It was not as strenuous as the hike a couple of days ago, but it was gorgeous.
We ran into some potato farmers along the path who were kind enough to allow us to learn their craft.

The hike ended in Totora, about an hour's drive from our hotel in Urubamba.

Totora boys |
The hotel was actually a group of small houses surrounding beautiful gardens. We shared this 3 bedroom house with Dave and Carol, and Molly, Dave, Rich and Suzie had their own house across the garden. The houses looked great, but the rustic rough pine floors made an incredible racket when you got up to hit the john in the middle of the night. Also, the lighting was a bit sketchy, no hand rails on the stairs, and steps where there shouldn't be. I am becoming a fan of building codes. It was fine for a night and better than sleeping in a tent! The staff was extremely hospitable, and the food was good.
