Corsica/Tuscany Day 4

Day 4: Ride The Col d'Eze to Monaco and Leave for Corsica

I tried to get photos of today uploaded before we left port, but I'm afraid the internet is too slow for th photos.
Today's weather was as good as yesterday's was horrendous.  Bright blue skies and temps in the 70's with virtually no wind.  Erik and Beth and Jeri and I decided to do the famous ride to the village of La Turbie over the Col d'Eze (don't confuse Eze with ease-it wasn't).  We should have known that anything with Col in its name was going to be hard.  We had great views of the Alps in the not too distance and the Mediterranean far below.  At one point we were passed by a procession of old classic really hot cars (Andy, you would have loved them). We climbed steadily for about 10 miles to the col, and then stopped for cappucino in La Turbie, a classic cyclist's morning.  We decided to skip the additional 2500 feet of climbing to the Col de Madone (Lance Armstrong used to see if he was ready to race in the spring  by seeing if he could ride this ride).
The ride down was a bit terrifying, steep descents with hairpin turns and switchbacks for miles and miles.  But the views were spectacular!!!
Finally made it to Monaco and the famous casino.  Since we didn't have our tux's and evening gowns, we couldn't go in.
The ride back to the port of Nice was still pretty hilly, adding another 1,000 feet of elevation gain.  We passed through small beach villages, including Beaulieu-sur- le Mer where my dad was stationed for a while during WWII.
We made it back to the ship  in time for lunch.
