Corsica/Tuscany Day 3

Day 3:  First Ride in France

Well, the weather did not improve overnight.  The forecast for today was pretty bleak, rain, rain, and more rain.  Bill lied to us, telling us it was going to dry out by 3, so we decided to start our ride to St Paul de Vence around noon.  So, after breakfast we took a walk to the farmer's market to check it out.

Just as we got ready for our ride, it started to rain lightly.

The ride took us south along the coast past the airport.  At around mile 6, we got our first flat.  Couldn't find any cause, and continued on for a few more miles when we got our second flat.  This time, I found a small piece of glass that had pierced our indestructible Hardshell Gatorskins.  Fortunately, Erik and Beth were there with a 3rd tube.
The ride continued uphill to a modern art museum just outside of St Paul de Vence.  The artist, Jan Fabre, had an obsession with the human brain.

Another hill and and about a mile later brought us to the beautiful walled medieval town of St. Paul de Vence.

Leaving St Paul.. involved yet another uphill, then about 10 miles of narrow, downhill, windy, very wet roads.  The rain continued and the temperature began to drop.  Poor Jeri (AKA Jen) was freezing.  Finally made it back to the coast and we stopped for Jeri to add a layer.  When we saw the Negresco, we were relieved, knowing we were nearly back.
A nice hot shower was wonderful, getting the chill out.  We made it to the welcome banquet  just a few minutes late. The dinner was actually very nice, and we met a couple of very nice couples, one of whom has a son doing a residency at DHMC.  Small world.
Packing (and trying to dry our wet clothes and shoes) tonight.  Early start tomorrow- bags out early, and riding to Monaco.  Then we board our ship, La Belle Adriatique, and head for Corsica. I'm not sure if I will be able to upload photos from the ship, so don't give up, keep checking back.
